			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a title="blocked::http://www.yfu-usa.org/" href="http://www.yfu-usa.org/" target="_blank">Youth For Understanding USA</a> (YFU) is one of the world&#8217;s oldest, largest, and most respected international exchange organizations.  YFU oversees global exchange programs that prepare young people for their responsibilities and opportunities in a changing, interdependent world.</p>
<p>In June of 2010, Youth For Understanding USA will conduct two short orientations for US high school students who will be spending the summer in  Japan .  We are looking for several qualified candidates to serve as Japanese Culture and Language Teachers at these orientations.  The Culture and Language Teachers will teach YFU’s Japanese Culture and language curriculum and assist with non-classroom responsibilities as needed.  Culture and Language Teachers play a huge role in helping prepare students for their upcoming study abroad experience in Japan , both culturally and linguistically.</p>
<p>This is a paid contract position that will last from June 5-15 (tentative dates – see job description below).  Additionally, YFU will pay for travel expenses to and from the orientation site in Berkley, California, as well as all room and board while on program.  The application deadline for this position is Friday, April 2, but hiring decisions will be made on a rolling basis, so applicants are encouraged to apply earlier.  To read a position description that includes more information about this position and explains how to apply, visit the following link:</p>

<p>Tsukuba International School (TIS) offers an international education for children in Grades 1 to 8. We are currently seeking a qualified elementary school teacher to start in September 2010. The successful candidate will teach all core subjects (including Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) and will share responsibility for additional subjects (including Art, Physical Education, Music, and Media Studies). As TIS is currently a  candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate, experienced PYP teachers will be given preference, although qualified teachers with a strong interest in the PYP will also be considered.</p>

<p>The Program Coordinator will facilitate the enrollment of undergraduate study abroad students from Japan, Korea, Mainland China and Taiwan at SAF affiliated/host universities and colleges in the US and Canada, UK and Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Responsibilities include processing applications, liaising with SAF overseas offices and affiliated host universities, creating relevant program materials, responding to student questions, and the provision of personal, cultural, academic, and emergency advice and assistance for the duration of participants study abroad experience.</p>
<p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities to Include:<br />
• Work closely with the SAF offices overseas (Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai, Taichung, Tokyo) sharing information and promptly responding to inquiries regarding student placement, acceptance criteria, application deadlines, etc.<br />
• Screen, review and submit applications to SAF host universities<br />
• Follow-up with host universities to facilitate quick turn-around on student acceptances<br />
• Ensure timely and organized delivery of information and materials to SAF offices overseas, and SAF host universities<br />
• Secure participant housing, orientation participation, class registration, and arrival coordination<br />
• Create, and revise pre-departure orientation materials and on-site communication sequence<br />
• Provide prompt on-site student support services via phone and email as well as after-hours student support services<br />
• Coordinate and participate in SAF orientation and host university orientation programs<br />
• Travel to SAF host universities to meet with participants and host university officials<br />
• Coordinate and participate in SAF professional development programs for SAF member universities in Asia<br />
• Accurately input applicant data into the SAF student database and create, organize and ensure integrity of applicant&#8217;s paper files</p>
<p>Qualifications:<br />
• BA/BS required, masters degree preferred with 1 to 3 years of professional experience, preferably in study abroad, international student advising, exchange student coordination, international admission, or English language program administration.<br />
• Adept at prioritizing and multi-tasking; able to arrange and follow-through on own travel plans (flights, hotel arrangements, local transportation, student programming, etc.)<br />
• Study abroad participation or experience living or working overseas<br />
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise good judgment in addressing questions and problems. Possess strong teamwork skills and an interest in working in and supporting a rapidly changing work environment<br />
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications<br />
• Energetic, creative with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, fluency in an Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) preferred</p>
<p>Work Environment:<br />
• Small collaborative work environment; lots of opportunity to focus on areas of personal interest in international education<br />
• Willing to travel in the US and abroad as required; approximately 4 trips per semester (one outside the US) should be expected<br />
• Resolving emergency situations may require additional work hours<br />
• Willing to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned</p>

<p>After the informational presentations we will gather for an hour of networking with local businesspeople to learn about different industries and opportunities in Portland.  If you haven’t experienced professional networking yet, not to worry!  One of the presentations will focus on just that, so you can start applying your new knowledge immediately.  This will be a wonderful chance to reach many new contacts, and we expect that you will leave with a long to-do list of new contacts to make!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco has an opening for an assistant in its Economic Affairs Section that will begin from December. The responsibilities of this section are broad, but include facilitating government, trade, and business relations between Japan and the United States.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Position</span></p>
<p>The Economic Affairs Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to three Consuls, collectively in charge of economy, industry, environment, finance, science, technology, information and telecommunications. Please note that the Consulate is unable to provide visa support for prospective employees, and as such all applicants are required to have the appropriate legal permission to work in the United States.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Duties include, but are not limited to</span>:</p>
<p>・Researching and informing the Consuls on current issues and events;</p>
<p>・Drafting and editing speeches and letters;</p>
<p>・Coordinating and managing several annual projects;</p>
<p>・Scheduling meetings and appointments;</p>
<p>・Responding to public inquiries;</p>
<p>・Handling various administrative and clerical tasks; and</p>
<p>・Occasionally translating emails or documents from Japanese to English</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Qualifications</span></p>
<p>A candidate should possess the following qualifications:</p>
<p>・Professional manner</p>
<p>・Excellent verbal and written communication skills</p>
<p>・Excellent organizational skills</p>
<p>・Strong internet based research abilities</p>
<p>・Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks</p>
<p>・Ability to work independently</p>
<p>・Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access</p>
<p>・Proficiency with e-mail and Internet</p>
<p>・Familiarity with Japanese culture and values</p>
<p>・Japanese conversational skills preferred</p>

<p>Ashoka (<a href="http://www.ashoka.org/">www.ashoka.org</a>) is the world’s largest association of social entrepreneurs — men and women who are creating new institutions and system-changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. Since 1980, Ashoka has pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship, electing and connecting more than 2,000 individuals with system-changing ideas in over 70 countries.</p>
<p>Ashoka’s Youth Initiative has harnessed the innovations and efforts of Ashoka’s social entrepreneurs in the field of youth development to create the Youth Venture program that is building a movement of <em>young</em> social entrepreneurs.  (See <a href="http://www.youthventure.org/">www.youthventure.org</a>) Ashoka believes that young people globally are key to Ashoka’s overall vision of developing a productive, innovative and engaged civil society.  By investing in and building a movement of young social “Venturers” around the world, Ashoka aims to change fundamentally the role of young people in society and to foster in young people the motivation, skills and opportunities to become leaders and social change makers.</p>

<p><strong>THE OPPORTUNITY: </strong><strong> </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Spread and adaptation of Ashoka’s Youth Venture program within Japan</li>
<li>Program management, including operationalizing, budgeting, monitoring and evaluating the youth social entrepreneurship program</li>
<li>Development and ongoing relationship management of corporate and social sector partners</li>
<li>Capacity building of partner organizations’ program coordinators/facilitators</li>
<li>Fundraising and strategic planning for program sustainability</li>
<li>Marketing and market research</li>
</ul>

Qualifications:<br />

of Language Testing International at or above advanced level required.<br />
Periodic recertification required. Able to accurately understand,<br />
read, and translate context. Strong oral and written communication<br />
skills. Japanese as primary language with English as a 2nd language<br />
required. Basic PC and keyboard skills with typing at 35-40 cwpm.<br />
Basic math skills, good written and verbal communication skills, and<br />
analytical skills with the ability to be detail conscious. Prolonged<br />
periods of keyboarding, sitting, and exposure to PC screen. Extensive<br />
telephone use.</p>
<p>Preferred Skills:<br />
Helpful to have course work in medical/dental terminology, industry<br />
courses (e.g. LOMA, HIAA), as well as prior claim paying, customer<br />
service, and/or medical/dental field experience.<br />
