History of Japanese Americans Their Contribution to the LARA Relief Activities in the Post-War Years

President of Tsuda College

Professor Iino will discuss how the relations between the US and Japan affected the status of Japanese Americans on the West Coast of North America. She will cover the role played by the Japanese Americans in the relief activities of LARA (Licensed Agencies for Relief in Asia) in the Post-War Years . By examining the role that they played, she explores the complexity of responses surro unding issues of loyalty, ethnic identity and identification among people of Japanese ancestry who were caught in the cross-fire of international politics.

The freshest batch of JETs are about to depart our fair area on August 5th. While there is a pre-departure orientation scheduled for them in late June, it’s a bit on the formal side. Therefore JETAA has come to the rescue by scheduling some informal play dates in July for new JETs and alums to gather together and discuss all things Japan!
