Welcome back New Returnees! A great time was had by all that attended the Festival Japan, Returnee Dinner and Karaoke Fest. Thanks to the JETAA members that came out to welcome the 9 new returnees that joined us at the various events throughout the evening. We arrived at the Festival Japan Beer Garden just in time to enjoy the tofu eating contest and the sounds of Monmouth Taiko. Matt Turner, the JET program coordinator, made an announcement that the Consulate will soon be starting the JET recruiting process and is looking for volunteers to help out. Look for details on the Website soon.
Our ni-ji-kai led us to Koreana restaurant where we had a feast of yakiniku, compliments of JETAA Portland. Those that were brave enough to stay out later moved downstairs to Family Karaoke Studio, where we spent 3 hours singing our favorite English and Japanese songs. Special recognition goes out to Steve Otis, who received the only “100” score of the night with Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”. We hadn’t realized there was a professional singer amongst us. Also, to Shasta Spaulding and Stephanie Coombs, as new returnees, we were glad you could share the newest tunes from Japan. We enjoyed meeting the new returnees and hearing about all that’s new in Japan and on the JET program. We’re glad to have you as our newest members.

Chapter meetings are attended by JETAA officers, committee heads, and are open to all chapter members. We are always looking for volunteers that are interested in becoming more active in the chapter. Our purpose is to plan upcoming events that support JETAA, the Consulate General of Japan Portland, and promote international understanding on a local level through cultural exchange and community activities.
If you are interested in joining a chapter meeting, send an email to: vp@jetaaportland.com
