Autumn Charity Concert – Oct. 9th
An evening of appetizers, refreshments, poetry, classical music, and Japanese culture…
This Charity concert is to raise funds to support the city of Minamisoma, which is the sister city of Pendleton, OR. Minamisoma lies just 16 miles from the Fukushima nuclear plants which were destroyed, and many of the surviving residents had to be evacuated from their homes, and remain so even today.
The program consists of two famous musicians and readings by an actress from Japan. The poetry is written by Shuntaro Tanikawa who won the American Book Award in 1989. He is one of the most widely read and highly regarded of living Japanese poets, both in Japan and abroad.
Prior to the concert, the main sponsor and founder of Non-profit organization, “From Portland with Love, Inc”, Chef Naoko’s authentic Japanese foods with drinks.
