Fun Times Cooked Up at JETAA Portland Iron Chef 2016

By President

If you missed out on JETAA’s 2016 Iron Chef event, you missed out on some stellar food. Not to mention awesome people.

JETAA Portland gathered 30+ people for a potluck/food battle called Iron Chef. We invited our friends from Pacific Northwest JETAA to come down and compete against us in a cook-off to end all cook-offs (until next year’s cook-off).

The secret ingredient was wasabi which was generously donated by Frog Eyes Wasabi, a local Oregon-based wasabi grower. Don’t confuse Frog Eyes Wasabi with the stuff in a tube. This is the real deal, grown the same way they do in Japan. And top chefs have even rated Frog Eyes Wasabi equal to the top wasabi grown in Japan.

This made the food excellent, of course.

Though we were all there to eat, we were mostly there to battle. Since the dawn of Iron Chef, we have held four battles:

  • Entree Battle
  • Side Dish Battle
  • Dessert Battle

The Battle with Seattle is for all the marbles, because it’s the only one that uses the secret ingredient (which is wasabi, remember).

And the winner was…

They won with their Chicken Parmesan with Wasabi Tomato Sauce. It was remarkably delicious. Congrats to our brethren and sistren to the north on their culinary victory.

Now it’s time to check out fantastic pictures from the event to help you remember the good times you had/make you sad you didn’t attend.

Everyone’s gathered and ready for some grub.

Load up them plates!

There was a lot of dessert. And it was all amazing.

It was a beautiful day for food and beer.

SEATTLE! Congrats, Seatts!

Thanks to Pacific Northwest JETAA for joining forces with us to make this an outstanding event. See you next year!
