JASO Annual Dinner – June 20th

Join the Japan-American Society of Oregon and their keynote speaker Ambassador Tadashi Nagai for an evening of fine food, good friends, entertainment and education as they celebrate their 61st annual gathering.

When: June 20th, 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Where: Hilton (921 SW 6th Ave)

Thomas Lauderdale (of Pink Martini) will make a guest appearance on piano, joining Mr. Nagai on flute for a duet.

About the speaker: As a young man Tadashi Nagai spent a year as an exchange student at Woodburn High School in Oregon. After graduating from college in Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Consul General in Portland from 2000-2004, his other postings include time in Germany and Australia, and four separate posts to Serbia and Monte Negro, including the Ambassadorship from 2005-2009. Ambassador Nagai is an honorary citizen of the State of Oregon, the cities of Portland, Gresham and Woodburn, and of Belgrade, Serbia. He is currently President of the Japan-Serbia Society and the Japan-Oregon Friendship Association.

The Portland Chapter of JETAA (The JET Program Alumni Association) was created to serve the bonds of friendship developed by the program participants. JETAA’s purpose is to achieve, through its activities, a broader and deeper understanding between Japan and the other countries participating in the program.
