Uwajimaya Natsu Matsuri Volunteers Needed – July 30th

By Webmaster

At the end of this month, on July 30th, is the Japanese summer festival Natsu Matsuri at the Uwajimaya Store in Beaverton.  The event is sponsored by the charitable organization Friends of Japan in Oregon.  It takes many volunteers to make the festival possible and we would like to ask for your help.

In addition to presenting many aspects of the culture of Japan, the festival is being used to raise funds to benefit the survivors of the great 2011 earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan and more recent earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan that occurred a few months ago.  A number of other non-profit organizations also use the event to raise funds to assist the community.

The festival has a wide variety of entertainment: Taiko (Japanese drumming), dance, song, martial arts demonstrations, games for kids, etc.  There are also many booths with vendors and displays from various organizations.  This year, the Koi and Goldfish Show will be joining the festival (you can see beautiful giant fish).  And of course there will be terrific and tasty foods (we even have a beer garden).  Please see the attached poster.  Did I mention that besides helping out a great cause and having fun at the event, volunteers receive food vouchers for each half-day shift worked?!

So I am hoping that you might want to volunteer for the event.

Interested?… Great, here is the website that has more information about the event and how to select a task for which to volunteer:  http://friends-of-japan-in-oregon.ivolunteer.com
